About Our Logo
The tree limb, like our programs, represents growth, resilience, potential and the ability to overcome adversity. Trees like individuals, rely on strong connections and the availability of resources to thrive, but must also overcome challenges, injury and lack of support. The challenges only make the tree stronger, developing new limbs which represent new life and hope for the future. Our programs aim to provide hope, healing and inspiration to our participants through education, accountability and collaboration.
What is the Coalition?
The Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Use Coalition (NSVSUC) is a coalition of law enforcement, healthcare, Substance Use Disorder treatment professionals, probation and court staff working together to reduce the impact of substance use and addiction in the region. The group was formed in 2014 following a community heroin summit in Winchester convened by the Northwest Virginia Regional Drug Task Force.
April 2015
The initial meeting of the Winchester-Frederick-Clarke Drug Treatment Court Advisory Committee was held, which represented the first step in creating what is now known as the Northwest Regional Adult Recovery Court, which will celebrate its 10-year anniversary next year.
May 2015
The Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition was incorporated as a Virginia non-profit corporation and received 501 (c) (3) status.
July 2016
The first drug treatment court docket commenced in the Winchester-Frederick-Clarke Drug Treatment Court.
Funding
The Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Use Coalition is funded through a variety of means, including:
- High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area – AIMS Treatment/Prevention Grant which funds a large portion of the cost associated with the Northwest Regional Adult Recovery Court
- Bureau of Justice Assistance Grant, which funds the adult recovery court programs in Warren and Shenandoah County.
- Supreme Court of Virginia, Office of the Executive Secretary Grants which support a Peer Recovery Specialist for the Northwest Regional Adult Recovery Court and a separate grant which supports the Northwest Regional Adult Behavioral Health Docket covering Winchester-Frederick-Clarke Counties.
- Direct allocations from the City of Winchester, County of Frederick, County of Clarke, County of Warren, Town of Front Royal, County of Shenandoah and Valley Health. Without this support, these programs could not exist.
